It can allow them to <\/span>express themselves and connect with a community<\/b> while <\/span>learning life-long skills<\/b>, like presenting, storytelling, and video editing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n When they get older, they can even use their YouTube channel as a digital portfolio to showcase their skills to colleges and prospective employers.<\/span><\/p>\n However, there are always safety concerns whenever a child connects with others online. This will help you stay on YouTube\u2019s good side when it comes to safety, content, community, copyright, and potentially, monetization.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n If your child wants to create content for YouTube Kids, they\u2019ll have to adhere to a separate set of rules as the spin-off platform has stricter guidelines.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n 2. Set appropriate privacy settings<\/b><\/b><\/p>\n With it being the most popular video platform for kids, parents are likely aware of the safety issues of watching YouTube and its sister app <\/span>YouTube Kids<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n However, having a channel comes with a new set of risks as it often involves sharing your image and personal information, as well as connecting with users via comments.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n One way to minimize safety risks is by <\/span>choosing the right <\/b>privacy settings<\/b><\/a> for your child\u2019s channel<\/b>. You have three main options for publishing videos:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n By default, the video setting for creators aged 13\u201317 is private, but this can be changed to public or unlisted. With private and unlisted, your child\u2019s videos will be less likely to be found and viewed by strangers – but they also won\u2019t get the chance to go viral or be monetized.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n You can also customize settings to disable comments and sharing, and to hide the video from searches, related videos, and recommendations.<\/span><\/p>\n As these settings can be changed later, it can be a good idea to play it safe in the beginning and ease up as you get more comfortable with your child\u2019s new hobby.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 3. Don\u2019t use real names\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n You can help protect your child\u2019s privacy by making sure they <\/span>avoid using their birth name<\/b> in their handles, channel names, video titles, descriptions, and the content itself.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Instead, you can both have fun coming up with aliases!\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n 4.
